La Volcanique is a fairly intense ride that takes you across the Chaîne des Puys and the Monts du Cantal, as well as the Cézallier steppes. The landscapes are breathtaking, but they certainly won't spoil your appetite!

Saturday – 200 km, the Chamalières-Aurillac Express

Departing from the very chic Chamalières, we will set off to explore the 80 volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Puy-de-Dôme and its 1,465 summit. Then we'll head south to discover the Cantal mountains, an extension of the Chaîne des Puys, featuring the Puy Mary (1,783 meters), ranked a “Grand Site de France.” We will leave these Auvergne giants behind to spend the evening in Aurillac, capital of umbrellas and truffade, among other things, and dine, for those who wish, in the stunning dining room of the Grand Hôtel Saint Pierre!

Sunday – 200 km, from the plains to the steppes of Cézallier

In the morning, we will continue our loop via the Plomb du Cantal (1,855 meters), the largest volcano in Auvergne after the Puy de Sancy. After Pailherols, Vigouroux, we will stop for well-deserved coffee break in Murat, home of the famous “cornets de Murat.” Then we will head for the Cézallier steppes, also known as “Mongolia in Auvergne”, to reach the Chaudefour valley and discover Le Chambon sur Lac, the Château de Murol, and the Saint Nectaire caves. After that, we will return to Clermont-Ferrand before saying goodbye and heading home, or extending the trip on our own and, for example, going to discover Vulcania the next day!
